Objectives
The 47th ICAAC scientific program offers an educational forum which:

  • Disseminates new data from research of basic microbiological sciences related to human disease;
  • Updates medical professionals on clinical diagnoses, preventative modalities and therapeutics;
  • Investigates the pathogenesis and epidemiology of old and new microbes;
  • Evaluates the spread of infectious diseases throughout the world;
  • Analyzes the developing resistance of pathogens to divers therapeutics;
  • Introduces new antimicrobial agents; and
  • Considers the most recent trends in healthcare management.

Intended Audience
ICAAC is designed to meet the needs of health-care professionals, particularly physicians, clinical microbiologists, researchers and pharmacists, specializing in infectious diseases.  Current trends will be covered regarding:

  • HIV/AIDS and other Retroviruses

Continuing Education (CE) Pavilion and Attendance Record
Attendees are responsible for recording their attendance at ICAAC sessions and obtaining a CE
Attendance Record according to the following procedure (Note: You no longer need to pay the additional fee to receive CE credit):

  • Between September 17 – 20, you may generate your CE Attendance Record onsite in Chicago by visiting E-Central;
  • Beginning October 19 you may generate your CE Attendance Record online by visiting www.icaac.org;
  • Provide your feedback for the sessions that you attended; and
  • Claim credit commensurate with your level of participation in the educational activity.

NOTE:  Kindly complete the ICAAC Program Evaluation form that you will receive by email after the conclusion of the meeting.

Physicians and Microbiologists

The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians. ASM takes responsibility for the content, quality, and scientific integrity of this CME activity.

ASM designates the 47th ICAAC for a maximum of 33 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Each physician should claim credit commensurate with their level of participation in the activity.
The American Medical Association (AMA) has determined that physicians not licensed in the U.S. who participate in this CME activity are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Diplomates of the American Board of Medical Microbiology, Diplomates of the American Board f Medical Laboratory Immunology, and Registrants of the National Registry of Microbiologists may earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ toward re-certification. Each professional should claim credit commensurate with their level of participation in the activity.

California Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS):
ASM is accredited by the California Department of Health Services to offer continuing education for California Clinical Laboratory Scientists. All sessions designated for CME credits will also qualify for California CE credits toward CLS license renewal.

Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel:
 ASM is accredited by the Florida Department of Health to offer continuing education for Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel. Those sessions that offer Florida CE contact hours are indicated with the Florida logo in this Final Program.

To complete your California and Florida requirements, please be sure to provide your signature on the rosters left at the session rooms or with the door monitors.

Pharmacists
ACPEThe American Society for Microbiology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education. ASM will award a maximum of 33 contact hours (3.3 CEUs) for participation in select 47th ICAAC sessions.  Current sessions already approved (CPE) credit will have a corresponding Universal Program Number next to the session title.  In July, a final detailed list of all sessions offering continuing pharmacy education and corresponding Universal Program Numbers will be made available online at www.icaac.org.  Statements of Credit will indicate credits based on participation.  ASM complies with the ACPE Criteria for Quality and Interpretive Guidelines.

Other CE Licenses
You may obtain a Certificate of Attendance summarizing the number of hours you participated in a CE activity by following the steps above.

If you have concerns (e.g., commercially-biased presentations, promotional materials distributed by presenters and/or participants, etc), please visit the ICAAC Headquarters Office and ask to speak to an ASM staff person so that ASM can respond immediately to your concerns.
