CUBIST-WainbergMAdvances in the Treatment of HIV: Can We Now Find a Way to End the HIV Epidemic?

Mark A. Wainberg; McGill University AIDS Centre, Jewish Gen. Hosp., Montreal, Canada

The winner of the 2014 Cubist-ICAAC Award is Mark A. Wainberg, PhD, of the Jewish General Hospital and McGill University in Montreal, for his seminal work in the field of HIV/AIDS. According to Carlo Federico Perno, University of Rome, “Wainberg has markedly contributed to the HIV chemotherapy field through his pioneering research on drug resistance and drug development.” Currently a Professor of Medicine and Microbiology and Immunology at McGill University and Director of the McGill University AIDS Centre, Wainberg has made significant contributions to the field of HIV drug resistance including when he, in collaboration with BioChem Pharma Inc, initially identified 3TC as an anti-viral drug.  Dr. Wainberg will summarize advances in the treatment of HIV disease and will discuss the prospects for curative strategies as well as alternative strategies for ending future HIV transmission.
